Dev Collective

Microsoft tasked us with creating a multi-year strategy and creative campaign to drive developer interest. A new kind of developer community called Dev Collective was born out of that ask. As Art Director I worked with a team of designers to establish the dev-centric visual identity, and continued as lead Designer and Art Director for the entirety of the campaign.

After presenting initial mood boards and talking with the dev audience we veered away from lifestyle photography. Instead, we lead with a unique visual approach using abstract isometric environments and icons created with 3D pixels called voxels, layered with visuals that celebrate the beauty of code. From this core I created and wrote visual guidelines as a living document that could be referenced and updated as the campaign evolved.

Over the course of the campaign I designed the initial community website, as well as concepts for the future of the website, event booths and swag, ads, social media assets, and email templates. I storyboarded, illustrated, and directed dozens of course description videos that explained the complex topics covered in each course. Later in the campaign I designed and art directed the logos and visual identity for two reality TV pilot concepts, Crowd Source and Code Impossible, as well as the opening sequence and chyrons for a Webby-nominated reality series, Crash Course.
